Starting June 1, 2014,
international Students need a letter of acceptance from a Designated
Learning Institution. You need to include the Designated
Learning Institution number (DLI #), which is the number that begins with the
letter “O”, on your study permit application form. “DLI number” is the external
term used for Organization ID in GCMS.
1. All primary and secondary schools in Canada are automatically designated. They do not appear on this list. You do not need to include a DLI number on your application form if you apply at this type of school.
2. The family member of a foreign national whose application for a work permit or study permit is approved in writing before the foreign national enters Canada is eligible for an open study permit (i.e., not attached to a DLI [letter of acceptance exempts]). The duration of the family member’s study permit must be same as the duration of the work or study permit issued to the principal applicant.
If the institution you have chosen loses
its DL status then you may face the following:
· If you have obtained letter of acceptance from an institution that does not have an DLI status then you application will be automatically refused.
· If the institution, you have obtained your letter of acceptance, loses its status before a decision has been made on your application then you have option of either withdrawing your application or providing a new letter of acceptance from another DLI institution. If you don’t do so then your application will be automatically refused.
· If the institution looses its status after you have obtained your study permit then you can continue your studies at the same institution until the validity of your study permit. You may not be able to apply for a study permit renewal to extend their attendance at that institution.
