On July 11 IRCC invited 800 candidates in an all-program draw. Candidates required a minimum CRS score of 505, which is significantly higher than the three category based selection invitations the previous week but still lower than 511 required for candidates in the July 4 draw.

Student Direct stream (SDS)

Student Direct Stream

Depending on which country you are living  you may be able to obtain your study permit faster through the Student Direct Stream (SDS).  Applications for study permit under SDS are normally processed within  20 calendar days.

To be eligible to apply under SDS, you must:

·       be a legal resident in 1 of the following countries:

Ø  Antigua and Barbuda

Ø  Brazil

Ø  China

Ø  Colombia

Ø  Costa Rica

Ø  India

Ø  Morocco

Ø  Pakistan

Ø  Peru

Ø  Philippines

Ø  Senegal

Ø  Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

Ø  Trinidad and Tobago

Ø  Vietnam

Note: If you are living in any other country not mentioned in the list of countries above then you are not eligible to apply under SDS , even if you’re a citizen of one of the countries above. In this scenario you will have to apply under Regular study permit application process.

  • have been accepted to an post-secondary designated learning institution and must have obtained an acceptance letter from the institute
  • have paid the tuition fees for your first year of study
  • living outside of Canada at the time of the application
  • proof that you have  obtained a Guaranteed Investment Certificate(GIC) of $10,000
  • get a medical exam before you apply (if you need one)
  • get a police certificate before you apply (if you need one)
  • have your most recent secondary or post-secondary school transcript(s)
  • have a language test result that shows: 
      • a score of 6.0 or higher in each skill (reading, writing, speaking and listening) on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or
      • a Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) score that is equal to a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of at least 7 in each skill (reading, writing, speaking and listening)


    Effective August 10, 2023, IRCC will also accept the following English language tests:

    • CELPIP General (minimum score of CLB 7)
    • CAEL (minimum score of 60)
    • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic (minimum score of 60)
    • Educational Testing Service (ETS) TOEFL iBT Test (minimum score of 83)


    Proof of full payment of tuition for the applicant’s first year of study

    This may be in the form of the following:

    Ø  a receipt from the DLI

    Ø  an official letter from the DLI confirming payment of tuition fees

    Ø  a receipt from a bank showing that tuition fees have been paid to the DLI

    Ø  proof that the tuition fee amount has been transferred into a repository account at the DLI to be applied to the tuition bill at a later date


    Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)

    A GIC is a Canadian investment that has a guaranteed rate of return for a fixed period of time. Many banks offer GICs. The bank that gives you the GIC must:

    Ø  confirm that you bought a GIC by giving you 1 of the following:

    ·       a letter of attestation

    ·       a GIC certificate

    ·       an Investment Directions Confirmation or

    ·       an Investment Balance Confirmation 

    Ø  hold the GIC in an investment account or a student account that you can’t access until you arrive in Canada. 

    Ø  make you confirm your identity before they release any funds to you.

    Ø  release the funds to you by providing:

    ·       an initial lump sum once you identify yourself upon arrival in Canada

    ·       the remainder of the funds in monthly or bi-monthly installments over 10 to 12 months 

    If your bank or GIC doesn’t meet these criteria, you won’t be able to apply through the Student Direct Stream.

    Your spouse/partner and children can also come to Canada with you.

    Your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children may also be able to get faster processing on a

    • visitor visa
    • work permit
    • study permit

    The application for your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children must be submitted along with your application.  If you don’t, IRCC will not process their applications faster. When you apply online, indicate that you have family members coming with you to Canada. This lets you complete their applications with yours.
