On July 11 IRCC invited 800 candidates in an all-program draw. Candidates required a minimum CRS score of 505, which is significantly higher than the three category based selection invitations the previous week but still lower than 511 required for candidates in the July 4 draw.

SUPER VISA

SUPER VISA

The Canada Super Visa is a multiple entry visa for grandparents and parents of Permanent Residents and Citizens of Canada. It lets you visit your children or grandchildren for up to 5 years at a time. It’s a visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years. When you enter Canada, a border services officer will confirm how long you can stay.

Eligible grandparents and parents can remain in Canada provisionally through the Super Visa. They can also obtain Permanent Residence later through sponsorship from their grandchild or child in Canada.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a super visa, you must

  • be the parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  • have a signed letter from your child or grandchild who invites you to Canada that includes
    • a promise of financial support for the length of your visit
    • the list and number of people in the household of this person
    • a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document
  • have proof of private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company
    • This medical insurance needs to
      • be paid in full, or in instalments with a deposit (quotes aren’t accepted)
      • be valid for at least 1 year from the date you’ll enter Canada
      • cover your health care, hospitalization and repatriation
      • provide for at least $100,000 emergency coverage.

You must also:

You can’t include dependents in this application.

Financial support (proof of funds)

The child or grandchild who invites you must prove that their household meets the minimum necessary income. The following documents are examples of what can be used as proof of funds:

  • Notice of Assessment (NOA) or T4/T1 for the most recent tax year
  • Employment Insurance Benefit statements
  • employment letter including salary, job title, job description, and date of hiring
  • pay stubs
  • bank statements

After you apply

Most applications for a super visa are processed within a few weeks or less. Processing times vary depending on the visa office.

How does the parent and grandparent super visa differ from a multiple entry visitor visa?

Currently, most visitors to Canada may visit for up to six months when they first enter Canada. Visitors who wish to stay longer must apply for an extension, and pay a new fee.

With the parent and grandparent super visa, eligible parents and grandparents can visit family in Canada for longer periods of time than with a visitor visa.

The super visa is a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years. The key difference is that the super visa allows an individual to stay for up to 5 years at a time in Canada, while a 10-year multiple entry visa would only have a status period for each entry of six months only.

There are also specific requirements that you must meet to be able to get a super visa. Find out more about the super visa and who can apply.

Is the parent and grandparent super visa a multi-entry visa?

Yes, the super visa is a multi-entry visa. It allows multiple entries for up to 10 years.

What’s the difference between the parent and grandparent super visa and a 10-year multiple entry visitor visa?

The key difference is that the super visa allows stays lasting up to 5 years per entry to Canada. Those travelling on a 10-year multiple-entry visa can only stay for up to six months per entry.

A single-entry super visa is also available. This remains at the discretion of a visa officer.

Who’s eligible for a parent and grandparent super visa?

To be eligible for a super visa, you must:

Your dependents are not eligible for a super visa. They can still apply to visit Canada for up to 6 months with the right travel document.

I need to calculate family size when applying for the parent and grandparent super visa. Whom should I include?

When you apply for a parent and grandparent super visa, include the following people when calculating family size:

  • the child or grandchild inviting you;
  • the spouse of the child or grandchild inviting you;
  • the dependants of the child or grandchild inviting you;
  • any dependants travelling with you;
  • any other person whom the child or grandchild inviting you is currently sponsoring or co-signing for; and
  • yourself.

Here are some examples.

  • The child or grandchild in Canada that is inviting you is not married and has no children. They have invited one parent to visit Canada for a two-year stay. The family size is two.
  • The family in Canada inviting you is a family of four (the inviting child or grandchild, the spouse and two dependent children). They plan to host two visiting parents. The family size is six.
  • The family in Canada inviting you is a family of three (child or grandchild who is inviting you, the spouse and one dependent child). The child or grandchild inviting you previously co-signed the sponsorship of the spouse’s parents (two persons). That sponsorship is still in effect. Now, they are inviting you and your spouse for a long-term visit on a parent and grandparent super visa. The family size is seven.
  • The family in Canada inviting you is a family of three (the inviting child or grandchild, the spouse and one dependent child). They plan to host you and your dependent child. The family size is five.
